Ballet Blast
To make up for all the ballet classes I missed, I decided to double up this week. My schedule only permitted a class called “Ballet Blast”, which is labeled as a fitness class. I have been to the beginning ballet classes here, but I have never been to a ballet fitness class. I figured it would be fun but challenging.
Challenging I was. I was surprised how difficult and physically taxing the exercises were. I consider myself to be in fairly good shape and work quite a few of my muscles regularly, due to Bharatanatyam, ballet, and Middle Eastern dance, but this was another league of intensity. Using all ballet exercises, the class works all sorts of muscles. Some of the exercises I hadn’t seen in my beginning ballet class, and some of them I had, but they were not done at this pace.
Although it was difficult (and I am pretty sure I’ll feel the burn tomorrow), I enjoyed the class immensely. The beginning ballet isn’t quite so intense, which is nice to be able to focus on form and posture, but the fitness class feels like it’ll be a nice addition to focus on really getting strong and in shape. I walked away with a few exercises I will try to incorporate into a daily exercise routine (basically, intense plies). I don’t have a lot of room in my schedule to fit in another dance class, but when I do, I will attend this one.
