Break-in

Published by under Musings

Last night, someone broke into my apartment and stole my laptop. I luckily wasn’t home and none of my cats went missing as a result. I also am lucky to have renters insurance which will help defray the cost of the laptop. In all honesty, there isn’t much that I could’ve done differently to have [...]

Third year about to begin

Published by under Education School

As of Tuesday, I enter my third year of graduate school for my doctorate. I’ve been busy the past few days organizing my apartment to primarily work from home. From a snafu not of my doing (long story, rather boring), it turns out I need to enroll in one more class. That means I only [...]

Procrastination

Published by under Musings

Some of my classmates warned me that during the research process, their homes were pristine clean. Reason being they used cleaning as means of procrastination. It turns out I’m similar. While I am making progress and working on things (namely, lit review), cleaning has become more of a priority. I’m not sure if it’s the [...]

Preparing for full-time research

Published by under Education School

As I close out the semester and start to focus even more so on research, I’ve been focusing on preparing for working at home. It is a kind of fun project. I’m not much of a decorator so it is challenging on that end but I’ve been taking the time to organize my desk and [...]

Decided I’m not moving

Published by under Misc.

After an application fell through, due to not having a cosigner and not being able to get one, I’ve made the decision I’m not moving. I can’t find a landlord willing to take me on as a tenant because I’m a grad student and am tired of searching for something that may not exist. It [...]

Boston Apartment Hunting

Published by under Misc.

Searching for an apartment in Boston is never easy. We have high rents and it is dominated by real estate agents. In places like Chicago, the way you find an apartment is much more causal: you walk around a neighborhood you like, looking for a “Apartment for Rent” sign about a month or so before [...]

Operation: Organization

Published by under Musings

This break I’ve taken the opportunity to finally get my apartment organized. Really organized, not the quick, sort of but really organized thing I usually do. I have plenty of reasons for doing this, but namely, I’m tired of not being able to find things or even better, not finding things, purchasing them, and then [...]

Where have I been this week?

Published by under Off-topic

I began this week with extremely sore muscles from Bharatanatyam on Sunday. Basically, we did some floorwork-esque dancing. My quads- well, I could feel my muscles working every step of the way; straightening my leg was difficult. Today is the first day my quads feel normal. That made everything take at least twice as long. [...]

3 Part-time jobs = Not a lot of time

Published by under Misc.

Time is kicking my butt. One hidden perk of having one full-time job is that you typically can stay put. Having three jobs means I live out of my bookbag and my T pass gets plenty of use. My students are doing okay. Some are a little intimidated by physics. I think it’s good that [...]

The first days of my 3 jobs

Published by under Teaching

I don’t think I mentioned that I have 3 jobs. I mentioned teaching as an adjunct and working as a middle school after school teacher to make math fun and exciting. My third job is writing problems for an integral calculus textbook. I feel like I live out of my bookbag, because I’m transporting stuff [...]
