After the Boston marathon bombing, the lockdown, and the subsequent capture of one of the suspects, it obviously hasn’t been easy being a Bostonian. I don’t know anyone who was directly affected by what has happened, but it was a turbulent week. While this past week has been pretty uneventful on a personal level and [...]

For those concerned, I am fine as are the people I know and love in Boston. A few friends and I did watch the marathon today, but we thankfully were not terribly close to the area where the explosion occurred and none of us live in the affected area. To whomever reads this, I hope [...]

Last night, someone broke into my apartment and stole my laptop. I luckily wasn’t home and none of my cats went missing as a result. I also am lucky to have renters insurance which will help defray the cost of the laptop. In all honesty, there isn’t much that I could’ve done differently to have [...]

Last semester, I realized that I needed to take a break from working on so many things. I didn’t take a true break, but I allowed myself more time to just do nothing. It was a good move. Having a more leisure schedule for work/research/outreach was wonderful. Additionally, because everyone else is on break, Boston [...]

On to announcements: Seyyide of Boston is hosting Dahlylah Al-Qamar on 14-15 July (very [...]

After an application fell through, due to not having a cosigner and not being able to get one, I’ve made the decision I’m not moving. I can’t find a landlord willing to take me on as a tenant because I’m a grad student and am tired of searching for something that may not exist. It [...]

Searching for an apartment in Boston is never easy. We have high rents and it is dominated by real estate agents. In places like Chicago, the way you find an apartment is much more causal: you walk around a neighborhood you like, looking for a “Apartment for Rent” sign about a month or so before [...]

While I started off this vacation with a lot of ambition, I eventually scaled back to something more reasonable. More reasonable being: Get back into doing ballet regularly Start attending my Middle Eastern dance class with Najmat Clean and reorganize apartment Fix padding in shamadan Organize computers Complete dissertation proposal’s intro and lit review sections [...]

Among my projects, this has been brewing and has reached advertising point. Shadia is a phenomenal teacher, and in my very brief time studying with her, I think she’s definitely helped improve my dancing. These classes are something I truly believe are a great asset and I strongly encourage dancers in the Boston-area to sign [...]

The rain has been vacillating in Boston between drizzling and blinding rain. The Boston transit system, the MBTA, is shutdown for tomorrow. Luckily, things are safe for now. However, I’m not sure if this is considered the hurricane or not. Share on beboBlog this!Bookmark on DeliciousDigg this postRecommend on FacebookShare on favesShare on FriendFeedshare via [...]
