Happy New Year’s!

Published by under Musings

It’s almost New Year’s Eve. Even though I know the calendar year doesn’t symbolize much for me (there’s still another semester on the horizon), I can’t help but be reflective on the past year as the news and everyone else I know seems to be doing so. Despite my hopes, 2012 has been one of [...]

Why do you do what you do?

Published by under Musings

The past month I’ve talking to many people about grad/professional school and goals and the like. Everyone I’ve talked is at various stages of degrees, from undergrads to almost finished PhDs. One conversation in particular inspired this post; someone was interested in completing a program because of the end result: a doctorate. I’m not convinced [...]

Last semester is kind of kicking my butt

Published by under Musings

This is my last semester of classes, and right now, I’m a little amazed how tired I am.  There have been a slew of personal issues and schoolwork has been quite a lot. Not to mention research commitments and commitments I volunteer for. I’m glad I take time out for dance. It is good stress [...]

Twists and turns

Published by under Misc.

Recently life has been full of many not good, unexpected events. Being in school and having unexpected difficulties is quite a balancing act between being kind to oneself and get one’s work completed. One more semester to go!

Published by under Education School

Of class, that is. I finished up the semester last night (grading, sans dissertation proposal which hangs over my head still). The semester was much fuller and difficult than I had anticipated. Part of it is that a dissertation proposal can easily take up half your week. There’s literature to thoroughly read, meetings, writing, etc. [...]

Sort of finishing the semester

Published by under Education School

I decided to take my first incomplete ever this semester on my dissertation proposal writing class. What happened is the following: I overbooked myself this semester, and there are still lingering questions regarding how I will do my sample. Turning in a piece of work that is low-caliber and not what I’m planning on doing [...]

Panel Organizing

Published by under Education School

A bit ago, I had an idea to have a panel for my students to listen to about being involved in K-12 science education. Sometimes, it isn’t clear how other folks can be involved in education period if they aren’t going to be teachers or aren’t parents. One of the things I like about the [...]

Returning to Ballet = Good Idea

Published by under Dance Class

Despite being a bit sore today, going to my ballet class was a good idea. I thought about skipping again and relaxing at home, but I decided that would probably turn into a cycle again where I stop going. Ballet was incredibly relaxing, arguably more than staying at home would be. I sometimes forget how [...]

Time management

Published by under Misc.

I read recently the most precious resource we have that is quickly depleting is time. Going through with the radiation therapy for my cat (she is more or less back to normal ) has proven that to be true. Prior to her radiation therapy, I’d say I was decent with time management. Now I feel [...]

I’m no Superman

Published by under Misc.

Remember Scrubs? I happened to love that show, except for that random last season. Anyway, they had one of the better theme songs for a show. That’s about how I’m feeling really now. I am no Superman. The last week has been taxing on me. I came back from spring break with a mysterious illness [...]
